1. His uncle Sydney Knowles had a great influence on the budding musician and he encouraged Beenie Man to pursue his passion.
2. In 1981, he was declared the winner of the Tastee Talent contest.
3. Beenie Man was only 10 years old when he released his debut studio album, The Invincible Beany Man – The 10 Year Old D.J. Wonder, in 1983.
4. His 12th studio album, Art and Life, was released on July 11, 2000, via Virgin Records Ltd. and it featured artists like Steve Perry, Wyclef Jean, Redman, Mýa, and Kelis. The album comprised of songs such as Girls Dem Sugar, Heights of Great Men, Trus Me, Art and Life, and I’ve Got a Date and was ranked at number #1 in the U.S. Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart and at number #18 in the U.S. Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
5. In 2001, Art and Life won the Grammy Award for ‘Best Reggae Album’.
6. In August 2004, Beenie Man appeared in an episode of the popular American late-night talk show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
7. He attracted a lot of negative attention with the lyrics of some of his songs that inticed the murder of homosexuals and this also resulted in his removal from the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards. However, Beenie Man has later apologized to the gay community.
