Big Freedia is an American musician and rapper best known for her work in popularizing the bounce genre of hip hop music which had originated in her home town of New Orleans in the early 1990s. Her first studio album titled Queen Diva was launched in 2003 and her 3rd album called Just Be Free (2014) had peaked at number 28 on the US Heat charts. She has also released several EPs and has been featured as a supporting artist in numerous tracks. From 2013 to 2017, she had been featured in the reality TV series Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce that depicted her life at home and on tour. In July 2015, her autobiography titled God Save the Queen Diva! was launched.

- When Hurricane Katrina had ravaged New Orleans in 2005, Big Freedia had moved to Texas for a few months and performed at local events.
- In 2011, she won both the ‘Best Emerging Artist’ and the ‘Best Hip-Hop/Rap Artist’ awards at the Best of the Beat Awards.
- Big Freedia has identified herself as a gay male and had initially stated that she did not care about what pronoun was used to refer to her. However, later, she mentioned that her pronoun was ‘she’.
- In 2016, she pled guilty to charges of theft of government funds after she had failed to disclose her earnings between 2010 and 2014 while she had continued to claim housing benefits. She was sentenced to 3 years probation, USD 35k in restitution, and 100 hours of community service. In 2018, the probation was ended one year early on account of her good behavior.
