Bong Joon-ho Facts

  1. From 1990 to 1992, he served in the South Korean military as mandated by the Conscription in South Korea.
  2. He got the central idea for Parasite from his early life experience of working as a tutor in a rich family.
  3. Disgraced mogul Harvey Weinstein wanted to edit out sections of Bong’s 2013 sci-fi thriller, Snowpiercer while overseeing the film’s distribution in the United States. Bong eventually got his way and released the film in its uncut form.
  4. Parasite had a historic run at the 2020 Academy Awards after winning ‘Best International Feature Film’, ‘Best Original Screenplay’, ‘Best Director’, and ‘Best Picture’. The black comedy is the first foreign-language film in the history of the award ceremony to be awarded ‘Best Picture’.
