Josh Philippe Facts

  1. Belonging to a family where both his parents had played cricket at a representative level, there were very few doubts about Josh’s future. He had shown a liking for the sport from a very young age and coached by his father, he had represented the state of Western Australia in the Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, and Under-23 tiers at much younger ages than normal for those age groups. He had also been chosen to be a part of the ‘Talented Athlete Program’ run by the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) when he was 13 years old.
  2. In October 2018, he was selected in the Prime Minister’s XI, a loose squad of Australian cricketers on the fringes of senior national selection, to take on the touring South African team in a one-day warm-up match. He rose to the occasion, top-scoring with 57 runs, as the Prime Minister’s XI managed to defeat the much more fancied South African team. He had also made 4 dismissals without conceding any bye runs. For his performance, he was given the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
  3. He had made waves in the 2019-20 season of the Big Bash League (BBL) by scoring 487 runs in the tournament which was the 3rd-highest tally of the season. He had played a vital role in guiding the Sydney Sixers to their first BBL trophy as he had hit a swashbuckling 52 off just 29 balls in the rain-affected final. For his performance, he had won the ‘Player of the Final’ trophy. He was also included in ESPN Cricinfo‘s ‘Team of the Tournament’.
  4. His breathtaking performances had seen him get selected in the 21-member Australian squad that was assembled to tour England in September 2020, an uncertain tour that had to be accommodated in the schedule with great difficulty due to the coronavirus pandemic at that time.
