Lil’ O is an American rapper best known as one of the original members of the hip-hop/rap group Screwed Up Click, formed by DJ Screw in the early 1990s. The group was created around DJ Screw’s ‘Chopped and Screwed’ DJ technique which gained popularity on the Houston rap scene. Following legal troubles for drug dealing and a near-death experience in the 1990s, Lil’ O started focusing on his education and also turned to hip hop for comfort. In 1997, he recorded a track named Can’t Stop which featured vocals of Kelly Rowland, Beyonce Knowles, and Michelle Williams, who later formed a well-known R&B trio, Destiny’s Child. The track was made into his debut single and gained him a lot of recognition on the local rap scene which led the Houston-based record label, Game Face Entertainment to sign him in 1999. Lil’ O released his debut studio album through their label the same year titled Blood Money, which sold more than 20k copies but because he landed in jail again, he couldn’t promote it.

After finally kicking his drug dealing habit and getting out of jail, Lil’ O released his 2nd studio album, Da Fat Rat wit da Cheeze in 2001, which sold more than 75k copies. It also led to a record deal with Atlantic Records which he abandoned in 2003 and went on to release his 3rd studio album, Food On Tha Table through Game Face Entertainment that year. In 2007, Lil’ O also released his 4th studio album titled Greatest Hits and in 2011, his 5th, Grind Hard, Pray Harder. In-between studio album releases, he also released mixtapes such as Neva Lay Down Vol. 1 (2004), Jealous Got Me Strapped (Neva Lay Down Vol. 2) (2005), as well as My Struggle My Hustle and South Side Tippin, both in 2006. In 2018, he went on to release a mixtape titled Tha Flood (Neva Lay Down Vol. 3), while in 2010, he released the mixtape Tha Flood 1.5. Lil’ O also released 3 notable singles named Gotta Get It, Teelee ft. DJ Michael “5000” Watts, and Hatin in 2018.

Lil’ O Facts

  1. The death of his mother when he was 13 years old sparked his rebellious phase. He spent time with the wrong crowd and began dealing drugs on the street. The easy money, fame, and attention from women drew him in and kept him hooked.
  2. Following his 1st arrest for dealing drugs, his dad kicked him out of the house and Lil’ O lost the benefits of a middle-class upbringing in a large family.
  3. Being on the street led him to deal drugs again in order to survive. When he was caught again, Lil’ O tried to swallow the evidence – 1.5 ounces of crack cocaine. His lungs collapsed and he was on life support for a while. Even though doctors told his dad to prepare for his son’s death, he eventually woke up and recovered.
  4. Even though he got back on track and began studying business in 1997, Lil’ O again went back to dealing drugs for easy money and got incarcerated again.
  5. Finally, when he was released from the jail in the early 2000s, he went back to get his degree and eventually majored in business. Lil’ O said that the county jail across the street from the university provided all the motivation he needed to stay in school.
  6. His song Da Fat Rat Wit Da Cheeze from the studio album of the same name peaked at number 199 on the Billboard 200 chart on August 4, 2001.
  7. Lil’ O considers himself a “food p*rn king”, a nickname he got for sharing appealing pictures and videos of food served in the prestigious restaurants he visited across the United States. Besides food such as truffle worth around $2000 per meal, he also enjoys expensive drinks and sugary treats. Some of his go-to orders are DonJulio 1942 tequila, Stella Rosa wine, chocolate milkshake, red velvet cake, and sushi from a Nobu restaurant.
  8. He fell in love with hip hop when he heard rapper LL Cool J on the radio.
  9. He is the CEO and founder of the Bar None Entertainment record label.
  10. Lil’ O has admitted that he’s a social media junkie.
  11. The hunger for greatness keeps him creating new music. He is partially motivated by all of the people he knew that didn’t make it the industry or passed away such as DJ Screwed, the founder of Screwed Up Click. Furthermore, Lil’ O credits his Nigerian background for keeping him grateful and humble as he witnessed the terrible living conditions there.
  12. When making new music, he adopts a mentality that it could be the last song he ever makes and he truly cares about leaving a positive legacy.
  13. If Lil’ O was stuck on a deserted island and he could only choose 3 rappers to listen to, they would be Tupac Shakur, Fat Pat, and Jay-Z.
  14. Follow him on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, SoundCloud, Spotify, Apple Music, and Discogs.
