The first bit of advice shared by Dana, a Columbia University graduate, is that you should never have unexpressed emotions as they can be responsible for your weight issues. In her opinion, the keys to weight loss are not just exercise and food because there are many reasons for not being able to lose weight.

If you are unable to express some emotions, they will get stuck inside you, and your excess weight will also stay stuck. She says that when her clients gain weight unexpectedly, the first thing she asks them is whether they are unable to express some feelings. The suppressed feelings can be anything from an argument with a partner to a tense relationship with a parent or even a shameful incident that took place years back.

How to Vent Out Unexpressed Emotions?

You should never suppress your emotions but instead, let it out on a paper or talk with a friend or a therapist. Never swallow your emotions or something that has upset you as it might do more harm than good as some people end up overeating due to unexpressed emotions.

James also shared some easy ways to ensure weight loss. They are:

  • Check on Hormones

You should pay special attention to the levels of cortisol, insulin, and estrogen by getting them checked at regular intervals.

  • Sleep Right

If you don’t sleep for at least 8 hours, it can increase your hunger. Hence, you need to make sure you sleep enough every night.

  • Avoid Inflammation

Gluten and dairy are the most common causes of inflammation, so you should ensure that they are not harming your health by checking for allergies.

  • Gut Microbiome

You should remember that microorganisms that line the gut can cause constipation or make your imbalance with the calories. So, you should check for gut microbiome imbalance and correct it with the help of a specialist if needed.

  • Read Medication Composition

Keep an eye on what type of medications you are consuming by checking the composition of your medications. Some types of medications like antidepressants can lead to weight gain.
