Martin Samuelsen Facts

  1. As a kid, his most important goal was to win games. He found the easiest way to achieve that was to score himself. With that in mind, he started perfecting various dribbling techniques.
  2. At the age of 7, he and his dad created a system. They would watch videos of soccer techniques, give them names, make spreadsheets, and rate them from 1 to 10 based on Martin’s familiarity with them. Rating 1 represented basic knowledge, and rating 10 meant he was able to use the skill in real matches with a success rate of more than 80%.
  3. Using a system allowed Martin to overcome Norway’s tendency to produce prominent defenders or full-backs when it came to soccer. He stated it was hard for his coaches to criticize him when he scored between 200 and 300 goals per year.
  4. It was reported that he attracted the attention of clubs such as Real Madrid and Chelsea when he turned 15 and decided to move to England.
  5. During his time at the Manchester City Academy, he gained reputations as “an excellent dribbler with a pace to match”.
  6. Martin had a very sudden growth spurt when he came to England.
  7. Martin is known as a very versatile player, being able to play both central and wide midfield positions, as well as centre-forward.
  8. He joined Norway’s Under-16 team in 2013 at the age of 16.
  9. He made his debut for Norway’s senior team in June 2016.
  10. Martin had no doubts about joining Hull City in January 2020. He stated the decision was easy because of their manager, Grant McCann, with whom he worked during his loan to Peterborough United in 2017.
  11. His talent agent also represents players such as Fredrik Gulbrandsen, Mats Möller Daehli, Kristian Thorstvedt, Leo Östigard, Havard Nordtveit, Örjan Nyland, Eirik Hestad, Magnus Wolff Eikrem, and André Hansen.
  12. Martin has been compared to a fellow soccer player Michael Laudrup in the way he controlled the ball.
  13. He is good friends with soccer players Antonio Toni Martínez, whom he considers a brother, as well as Jon Taylor, Raphael Spiegel, Stephen Hendrie, Charlie Albinson, and Denzeil Boadu.
  14. He enjoys playing FIFA video games with a joystick rather than a keyboard.
  15. If he weren’t a soccer player, Martin would have probably been an engineer. He loved studying physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
  16. He has been told he looks like a taller version of Justin Bieber.
