R-Truth Facts

  1. He was brought up in Charlotte, North Carolina.
  2. In his early ’20s, R-Truth sold cocaine in an effort to make some money. He was arrested on 4 different accounts and also spent short periods of time in jail. The longest that he was incarcerated was for 13 months.
  3. He was still a child when he started to develop an interest in hip-hop and breakdancing.
  4. While he studied at Harding University High School, R-Truth played football alongside the future Major League Baseball 2nd baseman Ray Durham. He was also a good athlete who took part in the field and track games. During that time, he also received several scholarships but turned them down in order to follow his passion for music.
  5. It had been a lifelong dream of his to become part of the music industry. He finally achieved this feat with the release of his debut studio album Invinceable in 2003.
  6. R-Truth was 18 years old when he graduated from high school. During that time, he had also met with rappers like Tupac Shakur and Eazy-E.
  7. Initially, he had started out as an opening act for rappers like MC Lyte and 3rd Bass.
  8. He signed with Advanced Management in 2014 alongside former WWE diva Maria Kanellis.
  9. It was Jackie Crockett who at the time worked with the National Wrestling Alliance who spotted R-Truth tried to convince him to get into wrestling and also helped him get into the wrestling federation later on.
  10. He made his first appearance in the wrestling federation in 1997 as a manager.
  11. R-Truth’s sister Francetta Killings passed away in 2013 after being diagnosed with cancer 7 years ago.
  12. He is the first African-American wrestler to have won the NWA World Heavyweight title.
  13. In 2019, he was voted the WWE 24/7 Champion.
