Rick Smith Jr. Facts

  1. He has collaborated with his wife to establish the local entertainment agency, Cleveland Entertainers.
  2. He developed an interest in magic tricks at a very young age and by the age of 7, he was putting up shows for his family and friends.
  3. While studying at the university, he used to play baseball for the NCAA team, CSU Vikings. He was their pitcher and had an ability to throw a decent 90-mile-per-hour fastball.
  4. He discovered his card throwing skills by mistake. One of his friends had riled him by throwing a sock at Rick and he responded by throwing a card with such startling speed and precision that it cut his friend on his arms.
  5. In 2002, he grabbed a place for himself in the Guinness Book of World Records by throwing a playing card for a distance of 216 feet 4 inches.
  6. In 2010, he auditioned for the season 5 of the TV show, America’s Got Talent. For his audition, he cut celery into 3 pieces by throwing cards from a few feet away. He was selected for the next round of the show. Rick failed to progress from the Vegas round as he wasn’t able to pop the 3rd of 3 balloons despite having taken multiple shots.
  7. In March 2015, he broke the world record in the highest playing card throw category. He had managed to throw a card 70 feet 3 inches high.
  8. Rick has established Magic Gives Back, which is a non-profit organization that aims to raise funds for the school system in the US. He organizes magic shows with other performers in collaboration with school districts, with the proceeds from the event going to the school.
