Rikishi Facts

  1. He’s a member of the famous Anoa’i family.
  2. In 1985, his wrestling career started in the Lutte Internationale promotion in Montreal. During his early years at the promotion, he performed as Prince Alofa, a high flying babyface.
  3. He wrestled in a professional wrestling tag team for several years until he transitioned to become a singles wrestler in 1995. At that time, he was totally repackaged, eliminating the savage gimmick he used to do as a tag team wrestler.
  4. In 1996, he was repackaged as “The Sultan”, a masked wrestler who never spoke because his tongue was cut out. The Sultan disappeared in 1998 following his exit to start training at Dory Funk’s Funking Conservatory wrestling school.
  5. On November 13, 1999, in an episode of WWF Metal, he made his in-ring comeback as Rikishi Fatu.
  6. The name “Rikishi” is a Japanese term for a sumo wrestler.
  7. In January 2001, he conquered a Fatal Four Way match on SmackDown at the #30 spot in the 2001 Royal Rumble match which included The Rock, Undertaker, and Kane.
  8. In an episode of Impact aired on September 13, 2007, he debuted in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling under the ring name Junior Fatu. On October 30, 2007, reports had claimed that he was released from TNA due to an alleged disagreement regarding a pay raise. He was then replaced by Chris Harris in the “Fight for the Right” semifinal match.
  9. He appeared with his family at the 2012 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony for the induction of his cousin Yokozuna.
  10. On July 16, 2012, he made his in-ring appearance on the Raw brand and defeated Heath Slater. In the match, Rikishi demonstrated the Samoan Spike and the Banzai Drop to pay tribute to his late brother Umaga and cousin Yokozuna. Not too long after the match, he danced with his sons Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso. On July 23, he appeared on the 1,000th episode with other wrestling legends to help Lita on taking down Slater.
  11. He was announced as the newest member to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2015 on February 9, 2015. On March 28, he was officially inducted into the Hall of Fame by his sons Jimmy and Jey Uso.
  12. He appeared in the Italian comedy film Natale a Miami and has guest-starred on Nickelodeon’s Victorious as a sumo wrestler in the episode “Brain Squeezers”. Rikishi also appeared in the Netflix original film, Sandy Wexler.
