Robert Redford is an American actor, director, producer, and businessman who has been a revered actor and a true Hollywood icon for many decades. Robert attended the Van Nuys High School, alongside baseball pitcher Don Drysdale, and graduated in 1954.   1. According to Redford, he was a bad student in school and used to steal hubcaps. He was more interested in arts and sports than in studies.
  2. He used to hit tennis balls with one of the best tennis players in history, Pancho Gonzales, at the Los Angeles Tennis Club to warm him up.
  3. While studying at the University of Colorado Boulder, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
  4. While studying at the university, he worked at the restaurant /bar, The Sink. The place has maintained a painting of his likeness in the bar’s murals.
  5. Redford used his earnings to purchase a ski area in Utah, originally called Timp Haven, and renamed it Sundance, after his famous movie character. The place has served as his residence since 1963.
  6. His love for independent films led him to establish the Sundance Institute for aspiring filmmakers. Over the years, the annual film festival has emerged as one of the most awaited and influential film festivals in the world.
  7. He also premiered the Sundance Channel, which is a 24-hour cable television channel aimed at airing independent films, on February 29, 1996.
  8. Redford received a Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian award of the United States, in 2016.
  9. In April 2014, he was included in Time magazine’s annual Time 100 list as one of the “Most Influential People in the World”. He was also declared as the “Godfather of Indie Film”.
  10. He had a long-standing friendship with actor Paul Newman, whom he met on the sets of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in 1969. Their camaraderie lasted till Newman died of cancer in 2008.
  11. Redford had suffered from a mild case of Polio as a child.
  12. He announced his retirement from acting in 2018 by stating that The Old Man & The Gun would likely be his last acting job.

  1. Bob Redford is present on social media. He has his own Facebook page and he and I admin a small private group of entertainers, writers, musicians and very select fans. I’ve been with him in this since around 2012. He was a friend of my late husband and has been a family friend for years.
