Woody McClain Facts

  1. He was born in Charleston but when he was young, his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he was brought up and did his schooling.
  2. Woody performed a rendition of comedian Kevin Hart’s skit titled Permission to Cuss in 2015. The video went viral and caught Kevin’s attention, who signed Woody to work in his production company by December of the same year.
  3. As his success as an actor and comedian has grown, Woody has tried his hand at production as well. In 2017, he executive produced a series titled Stories with Kev where he collaborated with Kevin Hart to re-create Kevin’s viral stories and stand-up bits. The series is streamed on Hart’s streaming video service named Laugh Out Loud.
  4. Woody came up with the idea of imitating Kevin Hart’s skit while watching the sitcom Martin (1992-1997). He initially wanted to impersonate characters from the show but realized that such clips would exceed Instagram’s limit of 15 seconds at that time. He eventually settled on impersonating Kevin Hart whose comedy style he liked and whose clips were the appropriate length of time.
  5. Woody has a loyal fanbase on social media with more than 1 million followers on both Facebook and Instagram.
  6. He has often been the subject of controversy and online criticism for his blunt and ill-thought remarks. He once tweeted that black women were overrated and that he would date white women if he ever rose to fame.
  7. Woody also produces music and is part of a music group named BandGeeks with his schoolmate Damon. He was also part of a marching band in college and had at one time dreamed of being a band director. He can also play the tuba.
