- He spent his childhood years growing up in the Bronx, New York, on Wilkins Avenue, near Crotona Park.
- Cobb was 16 years old when he ran away from his home in order to try and make it in Hollywood.
- While trying to make it in Hollywood, he became a member of Borrah Minevitch’s Harmonica Rascals as a musician and was cast in a small part in a short film featuring the group. However, he could not find steady work and, therefore, moved back to New York eventually.
- During his time at New York University, he used to work as a radio salesman.
- In 1935, Cobb joined the Manhattan-based Group Theatre.
- He supported Progressive Party candidate Henry A. Wallace in the 1948 United States presidential election.
- From 1962 to 1966, he played Judge Henry Garth in the Western television series The Virginian.
- Cobb was cast as David Barrett in the ABC legal drama series The Young Lawyers from 1970 to 1971.
