Danielle Rose Collins is an American professional tennis player who started playing collegiate tennis at the University of Virginia during her sophomore and senior years. At the time, she was already a potential player and won the NCAA singles title twice. She also became the top-ranked collegiate player as she finished and completed her career at the University of Virginia in 2016. Following her initial success as a collegiate tennis player, Collins made her greatest breakthrough in the World Tennis Association (WTA) tour after she reached the semifinals of the 2019 Australian Open. However, she lost the game to 8 seed Petra Kvitová in 2 sets.

Danielle Rose Collins Facts

  1. She turned pro in 2016 and compiled 3 ITF singles titles victories until 2017.
  2. She had never won any matches at a major event before she finally had the chance to progress at the Australian Open 2019. At the time, Collins pulled off her biggest upset after dominating the 2nd seed and three-time champion Angelique Kerber in straight sets.
  3. Collins played her first events on the ITF Women’s Circuit in 2009 but only won her first ITF singles title in 2011.
  4. Collins was off from playing any professional matches during the years 2013 and 2015.
  5. She debuted as a wildcard at the 2014 US Open in Arthur Ashe Stadium during which she forced 2nd seed Simona Help to a third setter in the first round.
  6. In 2018, Collins reached the qualifying rounds at the Australian Open but was outclassed by Denisa Allertova in 2 sets. However, she was given a wildcard at the WTA 125k tournament and eventually claimed the title, which also led her to a career-high ranking of 120. In the same year, she made her top-100 debut and jumped from no. 117 to no. 93. She ended her 2018 season with a career-high ranking of the top 50 for the first time.
  7. Back in her high school days, her junior ranking was impressive enough to get her a scholarship from the University of Florida.
  8. In January 2022, she reached the final of the Australian Open in the singles category but lost the final match to Ashleigh Barty of Australia. This was the first time that she reached the final of any Grand Slam tournament. She still pocketed AU$1,575,000 as the prize money.
