Hashim Amla Facts

  1. He was raised in South Africa in a middle-class home.
  2. Hashim’s grandfather migrated from Surat, India, to South Africa in 1927.
  3. He and his brother played together for a time at the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphins. He played his debut match for the Dolphins for the first time shortly after graduating from high school.
  4. Hashim went on to captain the South African team at the 2002 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.
  5. It was former Western Province captain and coach Hylton Ackerman who spotted his potential and coached him to the best of his ability.
  6. In 2013, Amla shifted to The Six Gun Grill Western Province.
  7. Hashim announced his retirement from playing international cricket on August 8, 2019.
  8. He was appointed as the batting coach of Johannesburg-based DP World Lions for a period of three years.
  9. Hashim is the first South African batsman to score a triple-century in Test matches.
