  1. He was 6 years old when he started playing football.
  2. When he was 17 years of age, Luis Díaz attended an open trial hosted by Atlético Junior in 2014 and went on to perform impressively to join the youth team.
  3. Owing to his Wayuu ethnicity, he was included in Colombia’s 22-man squad for the 2015 Copa Americana de Pueblos Indígenas.
  4. In the year 2016, Luis Díaz joined the senior team of Atlético Junior and was immediately assigned to the farm team Barranquilla. At that time, he had a slender frame and a potentially malnourished appearance so he was given a dietary plan by Barranquilla to gain 10 kg.
  5. On April 26, 2016, he made his senior debut coming on as a second-half substitute in a 2–1 Categoría Primera B home loss against Deportivo Pereira.
  6. On May 14, 2016, Luis Díaz scored his first senior goal as the winner in a 2–1 home defeat of Cúcuta Deportivo.
  7. He went on to make his Categoría Primera A debut on August 27, 2016, replacing Matías Mier in a 3–2 loss at Once Caldas. He scored his first goal on September 20 in a 3–1 Copa Sudamericana home win against Cerro Porteño.

After a day, his mother was rescued by police and a “major military search” was announced to locate and rescue his father. Subsequently, Colombian President Gustavo Petro stated that “all the public forces have been deployed” and General William Rene Salamanca also announced a reward of up to 200 million pesos for information on Díaz’s father’s whereabouts. On November 9, 2023, his father was finally released by the kidnappers.
  16. Due to his parents’ kidnapping, he was absent from Liverpool‘s following Premier League match against Nottingham Forest and his teammate Diogo Jota went on to hold up Díaz’s shirt during a goal celebration.
  17. Luis Díaz scored both goals on November 16, 2023, as Colombia beat Brazil for the first time in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.
