Personal Trainer

Given her fit, slender, and healthy-looking shape, it seems as though Maia Shibutani really never settles for less when it comes to her fitness goals and diet routines. Looking at her Instagram profile, she tends to often share random video snippets where she can be seen working out at a gym.

For figure skaters and ice dancers like Shibutani who need to get full control and balance of the body and movements, training and strengthening of the leg and arm muscles are 2 of the most important workout parameters that must be off the checklist. In a report published in 2018, Shibutani was seen doing one of her workout routines by going back and forth on top of a slide board, a type of exercise that’s usually executed to improve muscle strength.

This type of exercise was further explained by Raphael Konforti, a certified personal trainer, stating that the slide board workout is a must-have for figure skaters and ice dancers like Shibutani as it challenges the body to move laterally and also helps with making quick movements in all directions on the ice.

On Shibutani’s end, in an interview, when being asked about her biggest workout tip for non-athletes, she revealed that the best workout is finding a “workout that you genuinely enjoy”. She further added that while it’s not hard to follow fitness routines, it’s best to always choose what works for you and what you actually enjoy doing as it adds and creates motivation, fueling the excitement to workout and train more.
