Nikola Jokić Facts

  1. Nikola was named, in March 2015, the regular season MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the annual ABA League, a competition where 14 teams from Serbia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Macedonia, and Hungary participated.
  2. In the 2016–17 NBA season, he recorded 6 triple-doubles (a performance where a player achieves a double-digit number in 3 of the 5 performance categories—points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots) which was the 4th highest in the season. He finished 2nd in the 2017 ‘NBA Most Improved Player Award’ voting.
  3. During the 2017–18 NBA season, he scored a triple-double in just 14 minutes and 33 seconds which was the fastest ever in NBA history, beating the previous record held by Jim Tucker who had scored it in 17 minutes in 1955. Overall, he scored 10 triple-doubles in the season which made him the record-holder for ‘Most Triple-Doubles by a Denver Nuggets Player in a Season’, eclipsing the record of 9 that was created by Lafayette “Fat” Lever in the 1988–89 season.

  5. When he scored a triple-double in Game 1 of the first-round playoff series of the 2018-19 season, he became only the 4th player in NBA history to do so on his playoff debut and the first since LeBron James achieved the feat in 2006. In the first game of the second-round playoff series, he scored 37 points and became the first Denver Nuggets player since Carmelo Anthony (41 points in 2009) to score more than 35 points in a conference semi-final game.
  6. In January 2020, when he earned his 2nd NBA All-Star Team selection, he became the first Denver Nuggets player to earn this honor for 2 years in succession since Carmelo Anthony.
