Roland Orzabal Facts

  1. When Roland was 3 years old, his father had suffered a nervous breakdown which had left him semi-bedridden for the majority of Roland’s childhood. His father had then decided to run an entertainment business resulting in different entertainers often hanging around in his home. This unorthodox upbringing has inspired several of his songs.
  2. His name was changed to Roland within a week of his birth by his mother as she had wanted him to fit in growing up in England. She had later left his father and taken him and his brothers to live with an aunt in Bath.
  3. In 1985, his relationship with his father was parodied in a cartoon that was published in the British tabloid The Sun.
  4. In 2014, he had written a novel titled S*x, Drugs & Opera. It had revolved around the struggles of a middle-aged pop star who is trying to rejuvenate his career.
