Salem Al-Dawsari is a Saudi Arabian professional soccer player who has represented, as a winger, Al Hilal SFC (2011-Present) in Saudi Arabia. With the club, he won the Saudi Professional League (the top division of the Saudi Arabian soccer league system) title in the 2016–17, 2019–20, 2020–21, and 2021–22 seasons; the King’s Cup (the premier domestic knockout soccer competition in Saudi Arabia) in 2015, 2017, and 2019–20; and the now-defunct Crown Prince Cup (a competition similar to the King’s Cup but only open to clubs in the top 2 divisions of the Saudi Arabian soccer league system) in the 2011–12, 2012–13, and 2015–16 seasons. With the club, he also won the Saudi Super Cup in 2015, 2018, and 2021. The trophy, since its inception in 2013, was annually decided by a one-off match that was played between the winners of the Saudi Professional League and the King’s Cup. However, from the 2022-23 season, it was expanded to include 4 teams – the winners and runners-up of the Saudi Professional League and the King’s Cup. In 2019 and 2021, he was a key member of Al Hilal SFC‘s squads that helped the club win the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Champions League (the most prestigious club competition in Asian soccer) title for the 3rd and 4th time, respectively. The latter win made the club the then most successful team in the competition’s history. Salem was also named the competition’s ‘MVP’ (Most Valuable Player) in 2021.

He made just 1 appearance for the club though, coming on as a substitute in a match against Spanish titans Real Madrid CF.
- At the 2018 edition of the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) World Cup, Saudi Arabia had been eliminated after a 5–0 defeat against hosts Russia and a 1–0 defeat against Uruguay. In the team’s last match of the tournament, a group-stage encounter against Egypt, Salem scored the winning goal in the stoppage time after the end of the regulation time of 90 minutes to give his team a consolation 2-1 win.

As Saudi Arabia recorded one of the greatest upsets in the history of the tournament, Salem too etched his name into FIFA World Cup folklore.
