Tony Yayo is an American rapper who is best known for being a former member of G-Unit, a hip-hop group consisting of his childhood friends, 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks. G-Unit disbanded in 2022. He has released several albums like Thoughts of a Predicate Felon, The Loyal, Beg for Mercy, and T·O·S (Terminate on Sight). Tony has also been featured in several TV shows and films such as Morning Glory, S.W.A.T.: Firefight, One Blood, 50 Cent: The Money and the Power, and many more.

Best Known For

Being a former member of the hip-hop group, G-Unit, which is best known for the success of their debut album, Beg for Mercy, which managed to sell more than 2,000,000 copies in the United States.

In 2005, he released his debut studio album, Thoughts of a Predicate Felon, which was a decent commercial success with around 215,000 records sold within the first week.

  1. He grew up in the same neighborhood as his fellow G-Unit groupmates Lloyd Banks and 50 Cent.
  2. Tony gave his first performance at the age of 12, while he was in junior high school.
  3. He took inspiration from Al Pacino’s character Tony Montana in the crime drama Scarface for his stage name.
  4. Tony has done activism work for AIDS including having performed at the Hip-Hop for HIV Awareness concert.
  5. In December 2002, he was arrested for weapon possession along with his friend 50 Cent. The police found a Colt AR 15 and Glock 20 handgun in his car’s trunk. Subsequently, the police found that there was an outstanding warrant in his name for a previous charge, due to which he spent all of 2003 in the Lakeview Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility.
  6. He was eventually released from jail in January 2004 but the following day, he was arrested for possessing a forged passport. His fellow G-Unit band members and Eminem launched Free Yayo campaign to get him out of the prison.
  7. In March 2007, he was arrested after it was alleged that he had assaulted Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond’s 14-year-old son. He decided not to plead guilty and the prosecutors eventually decided to drop the charges.
  8. While he was serving house arrest in connection with assault charges, his mother’s house was sprayed with bullets in April 2007.
  9. In 2008, the mother of Rosemond’s son filed a lawsuit against Yayo and 50 Cent.
  10. In aftermath of the 2010 Haitian earthquake, he worked with a number of charities to raise funds. He was involved in the relief work.
  11. In March 2011, he released a new single titled Haters.
  12. In February 2023, he released a new album titled The Loyal.
  13. Tony released a new mixtape titled 134 Tape in July 2023.
  14. He has done voiceover work in video games like 50 Cent: Bulletproof and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.
