Aiden Markram is a South African professional cricketer who has represented his country in all 3 formats of the sport (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is), as an opening batter. Before breaking into the senior national team in 2017, he had captained South Africa to the title at the 2014 Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup, the country’s first such triumph in the history of the tournament. Aiden was the team’s leading run-scorer in the tournament and the 3rd-highest run-scorer overall. He had also been named the ‘Player of the Tournament’. In the South African domestic circuit, he has played for Northerns (2014-Present) and Titans (2016–Present) across all 3 formats. In franchise cricket, he has turned out for Paarl Rocks (2018) in the MSL (Mzansi Super League) and Punjab Kings (2021) in the IPL (Indian Premier League). A rare occurrence in modern cricket, Aiden has also played domestic cricket outside of his home country representing teams such as Durham County Cricket Club (2018) and Hampshire County Cricket Club (2019) in England.

1. Aiden, in March 2019, had scored 127 runs in the final of the 2018–19 edition of the Momentum One Day Cup (South Africa’s premier domestic one-day cricket competition), to help his franchise team, Titans, win the tournament.
2. In October 2017, in just his 2nd test match for South Africa, against Bangladesh, he had scored 143 runs off 186 balls. He had made his ODI debut later that month, again against Bangladesh. In that match, he had scored 66 runs and picked up 2 wickets.
3. In December 2017, he had become the first South African cricketer in history to have scored 2 centuries in his first 3 test matches.
4. In February 2018, within 6 months of his ODI debut, he had been named the senior national team’s stand-in captain for the last 5 ODIs of their home ODI bilateral series against India. This was after regular captain Faf du Plessis had been ruled out of the rest of the series due to a finger injury that he had sustained in the first ODI of the series. At the age of 23 years and 123 days, he was the then second-youngest player to have captained South Africa in ODIs, after Graeme Smith.
5. In February 2021, he was the leading run-scorer in South Africa’s bilateral away test series against Pakistan but that was not enough to prevent a 2–0 defeat in the 2-match series. This was South Africa’s first test series defeat against Pakistan since 2003.
6. In October 2023, Aiden scored the fastest hundred in ODI World Cup history. He achieved the three-figure mark in 49 balls in a match against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
