Michelle Zauner Facts
- She was just 9 months old when her family relocated to Eugene, Oregon.
- As a child, Michelle would visit her mother’s family in Seoul most summers.
- Michelle was 15 years old when she asked her mother to buy her a guitar after which she began taking guitar lessons weekly during which she learned to play chords and write songs.
- Initially, her mother did not want her to pursue a music career. In spite of that, Michelle continued to follow her passion and played at the W.O.W. Hall frequently opening for musicians such as Mike Coykendall, M. Ward, and Maria Taylor.
- Her constant persistence to pursue her music career strained her relationship with her mother which eventually led to Michelle becoming depressed during twelfth grade.
- After graduating from college, she began working as a waitress and then as a coat checker at Union Transfer, Philadelphia.
- She began the emo band “Little Big League” with Ian Dykstra, Kevin O’Halloran, and Deven Craige in 2011. Later, in 2013, Michelle started recording music under the name “Japanese Breakfast”.
