Derek Carr is an American professional football player known for having served as a quarterback for the Oakland Raiders and New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). Derek Carr attended the Bakersfield Christian High School which is a private, college-preparatory, nondenominational Christian school. He also studied at Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas.

  1. He grew up in Bakersfield, California before his family shifted base to Sugar Land, Texas, in 2002. That was when his older brother, David Carr, was selected as the first overall draft pick of the then-expansion Houston Texans.
  2. Derek Carr’s high school football career began by playing on the freshman team during his first year at Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas. During his sophomore year, he became a backup quarterback on the varsity team. He became a preseason quarterback because another quarterback met with an injury.
  3. He finished his junior year at Clements High School with 1,622 yards and 16 touchdowns and sophomore year with 1,246 yards and 12 touchdowns.
  4. With his amazing performances in his junior year, Derek Carr was heavily recruited by the likes of Fresno State, SMU, Boise State, the University of Southern California, UCLA, and the University of Utah. He eventually decided to stick out with the California State University, Fresno.
  5. On October 29, 2008, he became the “National Football Player of the Week” chosen by ESPN RISE after passing for 441 yards and 3 touchdowns in a game against Tehachapi High School.
  6. He was also honored as the “2008 All-Area Football Player of the Year” by The Bakersfield Californian.
