Famara Diédhiou is a Senegalese professional soccer player who has represented, as a striker, ASM Belfort (2012), SAS Épinal (2012-2013), Gazélec Ajaccio (2013-2014), FC Sochaux-Montbéliard (2014-2016), and Angers SCO (2016-2017) in France; Bristol City F.C. (2017-2021) in England; and Alanyaspor Kulübü (2021-Present) in Turkey. Between 2014 and 2016, he also spent a loan spell with a club called Clermont Foot in France. At the international level, Famara has represented Senegal, making his senior national debut in 2014. With Senegal, he won the 2021 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (played in January and February 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). This was the 33rd edition of the biennial international men’s soccer championship of Africa and Senegal won the title for the first time in history. He had scored the opening goal for Senegal in the team’s 3-1 win over Equatorial Guinea in the quarter-final stage of that tournament.

- When Famara signed a 4-year contract with English professional soccer club Bristol City F.C. in June 2017, his transfer fee of £5.3 million had broken the club record. In his first season with the club, he was their 2nd-highest goalscorer across all competitions, netting 14 goals in 36 appearances.
- In May 2018, he was banned for 6 matches following a spitting incident in a match that was played about a month ago, against Birmingham City F.C. Famara denied the allegations made against him which led Bristol City F.C. to appeal the ban in June 2018. However, his suspension was upheld in July 2018 which meant that he missed the first 6 matches of the 2018-19 season.
- During the 2018-19 season, he scored 13 league goals and finished as Bristol City F.C.‘s top goalscorer across all competitions. In February 2021, Famara crossed the mark of 50 goals for the club when he scored a brace (2 goals in a match) against Middlesbrough F.C. in a 3-1 away victory.
- In Senegal’s 2nd group stage match of the 2022 edition of the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) World Cup, against hosts Qatar, Famara scored his team’s 2nd goal to seal a 3-1 victory. The win was vital for Senegal as they went on to edge past Ecuador by a 2-1 margin in a tense finish in the teams’ 3rd and final group-stage game, consequently qualifying for the tournament’s knockout stage for just the 2nd time in history.
- The previous and only other such occasion was the 2002 edition of the tournament where the team had stunned the world by reaching the quarter-final stage. That campaign’s highlight was Senegal’s shock 1-0 win over defending champions (and their former colonizers) France, in the teams’ opening group-stage encounter. France was eventually knocked out of the competition in the group stage itself.
