- In 2002, he commenced his football career by playing in the youth academy systems of 2. Bundesliga side, SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
- He departed from Greuther Fürth in 2009 and started playing for the academy set-up of Quelle Fürth.
- For the senior-level football, Julian Gressel played in the German regional fifth-tier, the Bayernliga. He recorded one goal and ten assists during the 2011–12 Bayernliga.
- He then went on to play for TSV Neustadt/Aisch in the sixth tier, Landesliga Bayern-Nordwest, for the next season and recorded three goals and 12 assists during the 2012–13 Landesliga Bayern-Nordwest campaign.
