Nelly Korda is an American professional golfer who began competing in the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour in 2017. She had started her professional career in 2016 on the Symetra Tour where she had earned her LPGA Tour card for 2017 by finishing 9th on the money list. Her best performances at the majors include the title triumph at the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship and a tied 2nd-place finish at the 2020 ANA Inspiration event. She has also won several other tournaments on the LPGA Tour including the Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship (October 2018, November 2019), the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open (February 2019), the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio (February 2021), and the Meijer LPGA Classic (June 2021). She had finished 2019 ranked world number 3 and 2020 ranked world number 4 on the official Women’s World Golf Rankings. As of August 2021, she was ranked number 1 in the world.

  1. A teen prodigy, Nelly had made the cut (qualification to play the final two days of a major tournament) at the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open, a month before her 15th birthday.
  2. During her amateur career, she had won the 2015 Harter Hall Invitational and the 2015 PING Invitational. She was also named ‘AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) Rolex Junior All-American’ in 2015.
  3. When she had triumphed at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship in October 2018, her first trophy on the LPGA Tour, she and her older sister Jessica had become just the 3rd pair of sisters to win at least 1 title on the LPGA Tour. The other pairs to achieve this feat before the Korda sisters are the Jutanugarn sisters (Moriya Jutanugarn and Ariya Jutanugarn); and the Sörenstam sisters (Charlotta Sörenstam and Annika Sörenstam).
  4. In team events, representing the United States, at the amateur tier, she had won the 2015 Junior Solheim Cup. 4 years later, at the professional tier, she had represented the country at the Solheim Cup, a biennial golf tournament for professional women golfers contested by teams representing Europe and the United States.
  5. In August 2021, she had clinched the ‘Gold’ medal at the Tokyo Olympics. She had become just the 2nd American female to achieve the feat after Margaret Abbott had won the ‘Gold’ medal at the 1900 Olympic Games.
