Rasmus Højlund Facts

  1. Rasmus’ youth career began with a club called Hørsholm-Usserød Idrætsklub – based in Hillerød, a Danish town located approximately 30 km to the north of the capital city and his hometown of Copenhagen.
  2. He then joined the youth team of Brøndby IF, a top-flight Danish professional soccer club that holds the record of being the first Danish club to have ever reached the semi-final of a European competition.
  3. Rasmus later joined the youth academy of F.C. Copenhagen, the most successful soccer club in Denmark and a fierce rival of Brøndby IF. The matches between these 2 clubs are referred to as ‘The Copenhagen Derby’ and attract some of the biggest crowds in Danish soccer. His senior career began in late 2020 when he was promoted (aged just 17) to the senior-level first team of F.C. Copenhagen.
  4. He made his debut in European competitions during the 2021-22 (inaugural) season of the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Europa Conference League (the 3rd-tier club competition in European soccer, ranking below the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League) and scored 5 goals – across qualification rounds and the tournament proper.
  5. In January 2022, Rasmus joined the Austrian club SK Sturm Graz for a reported fee of €1.8 million. He went on to smash 12 goals in just 21 games for the team across all competitions during the remainder of the 2021-22 season and the start of the 2022-23 season.
  6. In August 2022, he was signed up by the Italian club Atalanta BC for a deal reportedly worth around €17 million. In January 2023, he scored 4 goals in 4 consecutive games for the club.
  7. On March 23, 2023, Rasmus made his first international start for Denmark in what was his 3rd senior-level international appearance for his country. In that match, he scored his first senior-level international goal for his country and went on to convert it into a hat-trick (the feat of scoring 3 goals in a match, not necessarily consecutive) – in a 3-1 win against Finland, the teams’ opening match of the group stage of the qualifying tournament for the 2024 edition of the UEFA European Championship aka the UEFA Euro (a quadrennial continental international championship).
  8. 3 days later, in Denmark’s next match of this competition, he scored both of his team’s goals in a 2-3 defeat to Kazakhstan. This meant that he had scored 5 goals in his first 4 senior-level international appearances for Denmark.
  9. In June 2023, in another group-stage match of the same competition, Rasmus scored the equalizer in Denmark’s 1-1 draw against Slovenia. This was his 6th goal in 6 senior-level international appearances for his country.
