Shweta Sehrawat Facts
- Shweta first turned heads on the Indian domestic circuit in November 2022 when she led the representative ‘India B’ team to the title in the Women’s Under-19 Challenger Trophy. She was the highest run-getter in the tournament, with 163 runs to her name at an average of 40.75 runs per inning.
- Later that month, Shweta captained the representative ‘India A’ team to the title in the Women’s Under-19 Quadrangular series that also featured ‘India B’ and the national under-19 squads of Sri Lanka and the West Indies. She was the highest run-getter in this tournament as well, with 164 runs to her name at a spectacular strike rate of 151.85 runs per 100 balls faced.
- These performances saw her being selected as the captain of the Indian women’s under-19 team for a 5-match T20 series against New Zealand. She oversaw a domineering 5-0 series win.
- In January 2023, in India’s opening group-stage match of the 2023 (and inaugural) edition of the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, against hosts South Africa, Shweta smashed 92 runs not out off just 57 balls to help India chase down a challenging target of 167 runs inside 17 overs, with 7 wickets to spare. She was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for her swashbuckling knock.
- In India’s 2nd match, against the United Arab Emirates, she scored 74 runs not out in 49 balls to help India set up a massive target of 220 runs. India went on to win the match by a mammoth margin of 122 runs. In India’s next (and last) match of the tournament’s group stage, against Scotland, she batted at number 6 instead of her usual position as an opener.
- Shweta walked in to bat in the 17th over when India was struggling at 105/4. She then turned the match on its head (smoking 31 runs off just 10 balls) and dragged India’s total to 149 runs. The total proved too much for the Scottish team that folded for just 66 runs. In India’s 1st match of the ‘Super 6’ stage of the tournament, Shweta top-scored with 21 runs but the rest of the team folded around her.
- Australia chased down the paltry target of 87 runs with 7 wickets to spare and handed India its first defeat of the tournament. India bounced back from this embarrassment and hammered Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in its 2nd (and last) match of the ‘Super 6’ stage of the tournament.
- In the semi-final, against New Zealand, Shweta scored 61 runs not out in 45 balls to lead India to a commanding 8-wicket win. She was dismissed for just 5 runs in the final, her lowest score in the tournament, but India managed to cruise to a 7-wicket win against England as the target was a mere 69 runs.
- In February 2023, in the auction for the upcoming inaugural edition of the WPL (Women’s Premier League), Shweta was acquired by the UP Warriorz for INR 40 lakhs.
