Taniya Bhatia Facts

  1. When Taniya was about 11 years old, she became the then-youngest girl to represent the northern Indian state of Punjab in cricket at the under-19 level.
  2. When she made her WT20I (and international) debut for India in February 2018, she became the first female cricketer from Chandigarh (a city, district, and union territory (a union territory is a type of administrative division in India which is governed, in part or in whole, by the Union Government of India) in India that serves as the joint capital of the two neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana) to represent India at the senior international level.
  3. At the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Taniya played all 5 of India’s matches – 4 group-stage games and the final – as the first-choice wicketkeeper. India’s scheduled semi-final, against England, was abandoned after incessant rain meant that no play was possible. India advanced to the final because India had finished their group in the top position while England had stood 2nd in theirs.
  4. In the final match of that tournament, against hosts Australia, Richa Ghosh replaced Taniya (as a concussion substitute) after 11.3 overs of India’s innings (2nd half of the match).
  5. In February 2023, in the auction for the upcoming inaugural edition of the WPL (Women’s Premier League), she was acquired for INR 30 lakhs by the Delhi Capitals.
  6. As of February 2023, Taniya had recorded 45 stumpings (stumping is a method of dismissing a batter that involves the wicket-keeper breaking the wickets (stumps) while the batter is out of his/her crease) in just 52 innings in the WT20I format.
  7. Having only started her WT20I career in February 2018, she was already ranked number 3 in terms of most stumpings in a career in the WT20I format. Only Alyssa Healy of Australia (58 stumpings in 125 innings) and Sarah Taylor of England (51 stumpings in 88 innings) were ahead of her.
