  1. He played football for Newell’s Old Boys and has held the record of appearances with the team, playing a total of 505 matches in all official competitions. In a fan poll, he was selected as Newell’s best player throughout the club’s history.
  2. In February 2007, Tata Martino replaced Uruguayan Anibal “Maño” Ruiz as the head coach of the Paraguay national football team.
  3. He announced on July 5, 2010, that he would be stepping down as Paraguay coach on their return from the 2010 FIFA World Cup in which he led the team to the quarter-finals. As his 4-year contract with the club was expiring, Tata Martino stated that he would not be extending his spell in charge of the team but later agreed to stay on as Paraguay coach until after the 2011 Copa America. He led the team to the final where it lost to Uruguay.
  4. He was confirmed as head coach of the Spanish club Barcelona on July 7, 2013, as he replaced Tito Vilanova who resigned three days earlier due to health issues.
  5. After signing a two-year deal at Barcelona, his debut competitive game in charge of the club was on August 18, 2013, against Levante. His side went on to win 7–0 on the opening weekend of the 2013–14 La Liga season.
  6. Tata Martino won his first Clásico as a Barcelona coach when his side won 2–1 against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou on October 26, 2013. Barcelona won 0–3 at Celta de Vigo three days later and this made him the first coach in Barcelona history to not lose a game in their first 16 matches.
  7. His successful unbeaten start as Barcelona coach came to an end on November 20, 2013, after his 21st game in charge, as his side lost 2–1 away at Ajax in the 2013–14 UEFA Champions League.
  8. Barcelona lost the 2013–14 La Liga title on the last day of the season to Atlético Madrid and after that, Martino announced that he was to leave his role after just one year in charge during which he did not manage to win any major trophy except the Spanish Super Cup.
  9. Martino was named as the new head coach for the Argentina national team on August 12, 2014, succeeding Alejandro Sabella.
  10. The Argentina national team made it to the final in the 2015 Copa América and were runners-up after losing to Chile on penalties.
