- During his time at the University of Tennessee, Todd Helton was named a Gatorade Player of the Year for football and baseball.
- He served as a backup for Heath Shuler at quarterback during his freshman and sophomore seasons and then served as the back-up to senior Jerry Colquitt in his junior season in 1994.
- During his college career as a football player, he appeared in 12 games and completed 41 of 75 passes for 484 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions.
