Tom Latham Facts

  1. He made his debut with the Canterbury in the 2010-11 Plunket Shield season, during which he scored 65 in his maiden first-class cricket innings. During his time with Canterbury, Latham had played youth cricket, captained the under-19 side, and played for the A team from 2008 to 2009 season.
  2. In the 2016 English season, he was signed as an overseas player by the Kent County Cricket Club. He made his County Championship debut in a match against Glamorgan at Canterbury in May where he scored half-centuries in both innings, making him the first team batsman in league history to do so while on debut.
  3. In 2017, he signed as an overseas player with Durham for the 2nd half of the 2017 English cricket season.
  4. During his international career debut in 2012, he scored 24 runs, batting at number 5 in an ODI against Zimbabwe. On July 30, 2012, he made his Twenty20 International debut against the West Indies where he made 15 and 19 in the series.
  5. Latham made his Test match debut against India in February 2014, scoring 29 and 0. Shortly after that, he toured the West Indies with New Zealand in June 2014 and played in all 3 tests and 2 T20s. At that time, he had a successful test series scoring 3 half-centuries and 288 runs in total, placing him 2nd in the list of the top run-scorers next to teammate Kane Williamson.
  6. His first Test century came into view on November 11, 2014, wherein he achieved the century against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi with a score of 103.
  7. Although he mostly played as an opening batsman in Test matches, he was named as a middle-order batsman and backup wicket-keeper to Luke Ronchi for the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
  8. He was selected to tour Zimbabwe in 2015 as an opening batsman. In the 2nd ODI of the series, he scored his maiden ODI century 110 not out which was part of an undefeated partnership with Martin Guptill of 236 with New Zealand winning the match by 10 wickets to level the series.
  9. In October 2016, he became the 10th batsman and the first New Zealander to carry his bat in an ODI during a match against India at Dharamshala.
  10. He was named as the New Zealand wicket-keeper for the Chappell-Hadlee series in January 2017. In May 2017, he was recalled and named as captain for the Ireland Tri-Series against Ireland and Bangladesh with a number of regular players in the 2017 Indian Premier League.
  11. He was one of the 20 players who had been awarded a new contract to play for the 2018-19 season by New Zealand Cricket.
  12. In December 2018, in a match against Sri Lanka, Latham made the highest score while carrying the bat in Test cricket with 264 not out.
  13. In April 2019, Latham was named in New Zealand’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
