Alan Arkin, an American actor, singer, director, and screenwriter whose career in the film industry surpassed more than 7 decades. He is a multiple BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Award winner. He is perhaps, most notable for his appearance in the films Wait Until Dark (1967), Catch-22 (1970), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), Little Miss Sunshine (2006), and Argo (2012) along with a dozen more.

  1. He was brought up in a family that did not quite believe in religion.
  2. His grandparents were from parts of Ukraine, Russia, and Germany.
  3. He had been learning the art of acting ever since he was 10 years old.
  4. Alan was 11 years old when his parents shifted to Los Angeles where his father worked as a set designer. However, due to a long-lasting Hollywood strike he had lost his job.
  5. His parents were accused of being communists during the 1950s at the time of the Red Scare.
  6. During his college days, Arkin with the drama group and sang with the choir.
  7. In the past, Alan along with his friends me, Karl Karlton, and brother Bob formed the folk music band and titled it The Tarriers. They released a number of hits including The Banana Boat Song (1956).
  8. Alan is the only actor to win an Oscar Award for playing the titular role in Inspector Clouseau (1968).
  9. He is the proud receiver of the Gregory Peck Award for “Cinematic Excellence,” which was given to him in 2014.
  10. Back in the day, he would mostly play edgy and intense roles.
  11. As of 2019, he is 1 of 6 actors to have ever been nominated for an Academy Award for their debut film appearance.
  12. On June 7, 2019, Alan was honored with the 2,665th “Hollywood Walk of Fame” star at 6914 Hollywood Boulevard.
