Amanda Ribas Facts

  1. Amanda used to train under her father (a renowned martial arts coach) until she was selected for the national judo youth team of Brazil. In her youth, after suffering a few knee injuries, she stopped training and competing for a few years. However, she resumed her training after getting inspired by watching some of her colleagues train for a mixed martial arts tournament.
  2. She won the 2014 edition of the IMMAF (International Mixed Martial Arts Federation) World Championship in the women’s flyweight division. IMMAF is the international governing body for amateur mixed martial arts.
  3. Amanda then started her professional mixed martial arts career in March 2014 and amassed a 6-1 win-loss record by May 2016, competing in different promotions across Brazil.
  4. She was set to make her UFC debut in July 2017 but was flagged by the USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency), the national anti-doping organization for the United States, for a potential anti-doping violation.
  5. Amanda was removed from the bout and was initially handed a 2-year sanction. However, the suspension was terminated in May 2019 as the USADA determined that the positive test was the result of a contaminated dietary supplement.
  6. She eventually made her UFC debut in June 2019 and won the fight via a rear-naked choke submission in the 2nd round.
  7. In May 2022, Amanda won her first ‘UFC Fight of the Night’ bonus award even as she lost that bout to Katlyn Chookagian via a split decision.
