  1. His father was a boxing trainer.
  2. His grandparents emigrated from Jamaica to Cuba to get a better education.
  3. At the age of 15, a friend invited him to join a local baseball team during which he started playing as a first baseman until the coach noticed that he could throw well-enough to qualify as a pitcher. He started playing as a pitcher in 2003.
  4. In 2006, he joined the Holguín Sabuesos of the Cuban National Series League.
  5. In his career innings, he has compiled a tally of 24-19 win-loss records, a 3.74 earned run average (ERA), and 365 strikeouts. Despite completing 11 relief appearances in the 2007 season, Chapman was only used mainly as a starting pitcher.
  6. He was part of the Cuban national team at the 2007 Pan American Games and the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
  7. On January 10, 2010, he agreed to a six-year contract with the Cincinnati Reds. The actual contract plus the bonus totals $100.25 million which was paid annually in 11 years.
  8. He was named to his first All-Star Game on July 1, 2012. Around the same time, he also won the MLB Delivery Man of the Month Award. He was also named the “August Delivery Man of the Month” and finished the 2012 season with a 1.51 ERA and 38 saves in 43 chances, recording 122 strikeouts, and 23 walks in ​71 2⁄3 innings.

Chapman only reunited with his family after he helped them transfer to the United States. He officially became an American citizen in April 2016.
