Blair Tickner Facts

  1. Blair first came into the spotlight in November 2017 when he recorded a hat-trick (the feat of dismissing 3 batters off 3 successive legal deliveries) in the first innings of Central Districts’ 5th-round fixture against Wellington in the 2017-18 season of the Plunket Shield (New Zealand’s premier domestic first-class cricket tournament). The match was also remarkable for the similar scores put up by both teams – 171 & 172 by Wellington and 172 & 172/3 by Central Districts.
  2. This 7-wicket win ultimately proved decisive as Central Districts (131 points) narrowly edged out Wellington (127 points) to win the Plunket Shield title that season after the 10th and final round of fixtures. It was Central Districts’ 10th such title. Blair was his team’s 2nd highest (and the 9th highest overall) wicket-taker in the tournament – 30 wickets in 9 matches.
  3. He also impressed in the 2017-18 season of the Super Smash (New Zealand’s premier domestic T20 cricket tournament), finishing as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker – 21 dismissals in 11 matches. Blair was Central Districts’ best bowler in the first 4 of the team’s 10 league stage fixtures – with his figures reading 2/44, 2/37, 2/21, and 4/24 in those matches.
  4. His performances were instrumental in helping the team finish in 3rd place in the league stage of the tournament. Blair was his team’s best bowler in the final of the tournament as well but could not prevent a 9-wicket defeat to league stage table toppers Northern Knights who won the tournament for the 2nd time.
  5. A coffee aficionado, he once packed 3 kilos of coffee beans, a coffee maker, and a grinder so that he could make his own coffee 3-4 times every day on a tour of Bangladesh with New Zealand’s senior national cricket team.
