Carlos Soler Facts

  1. Carlos’ youth career began in 2001 when, as a 4-year-old, he joined Bonrepòs, a local club that his brother used to play for at that time. He was noticed by a member of the club’s coaching staff when he was hitting some shots during the half-time interval of a match in which the club was participating.
  2. The coach was impressed with his power at such a young age and invited him to join the club. Carlos was too shy and reluctant at that time and only joined the club after his grandfather gave him a Game Boy (a handheld game console) as a reward for enrolling with the club.
  3. In 2005, he was signed up by the youth academy of Valencia CF, a top-flight professional soccer club based in Valencia. He was a prolific striker in his early developmental years but was later molded into a midfielder. Carlos stayed in the club’s youth system until 2015 when he began representing Valencia CF Mestalla, the reserve team of Valencia CF.
  4. With Spain, he won the 2019 edition of the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) European Under-21 Championship. The title was Spain’s 5th such and tied the country with Italy as the then most successful team in the competition. Carlos was also a member of the Spanish squad that had finished as the runner-up in the previous (2017) edition of the tournament.
  5. In November 2020, he scored the first hat trick (the feat of scoring 3 goals, not necessarily consecutive, in a match) of his career – during a 4–1 win over Spanish behemoth Real Madrid CF in a La Liga (the top tier of the Spanish soccer league system) match. All 3 goals in the hat trick came via penalties; making this just the 3rd such occasion in the history of the league.
  6. Carlos once mentioned in an interview that he learned the English language in his childhood by paying attention to the commentary of the Premier League (the top tier of the English soccer league system) matches that he used to watch on Canal+, a French premium TV channel that primarily operates in Western Europe.
