Chetan Sakariya is an Indian professional cricketer who has played for the regional team of Saurashtra (2018–Present) across all 3 formats, as a front-line pace bowler, in the Indian domestic circuit. In the IPL (Indian Premier League), he has turned out for Rajasthan Royals (2021–Present). He had first come into the spotlight in November 2018 when he had picked up a 5-wicket haul in his debut first-class match for Saurashtra, during the 2018–19 season of the Ranji Trophy (India’s premier domestic first-class cricket competition). Consistent performances in the domestic circuit thereafter, particularly his highly economical bowling in the T20 format, had helped him garner the attention of several IPL franchises. He was eventually snapped up by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.2 crores, an amount that was 6 times greater than his auction base price.

Chetan Sakariya Facts
- Hailing from an economically challenged family from the village of Vartej which is 180 kilometers away from the major cricketing city of Rajkot (home of the Saurashtra cricket team), Chetan had faced several hurdles in his early cricketing journey. When he had first joined the senior team of Saurashtra, he did not even have a pair of cricket shoes.
- Sheldon Jackson, a senior player in the Saurashtra team, had then bought him a new pair of shoes so that he could train properly. It was only then that Chetan had availed the opportunity of getting enrolled in the MRF Pace Foundation, a renowned training camp and coaching clinic for pace bowlers based in Chennai, India. Chetan and Sheldon became very good friends after the latter’s heart-warming gesture.
- A surprise pick at the 2021 IPL auction, not many fans were expecting to see him in the team’s starting XI but the Royals played him in all 7 of their matches in the first half of the 2021 IPL season that had to be postponed midway due to the alarming rise in covid-19 cases in India. He had more than repaid the team’s faith by picking 7 wickets in those matches, including a 3-wicket haul in his debut match.
- When his younger brother, Rahul, had committed suicide in January 2021, Chetan was competing in the 2020–21 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (India’s premier domestic T20 cricket competition). He was very close with his brother and he could not eat or sleep for a week after the news was broken to him. During the 2021 IPL season, he wore a jersey with the words ‘Miss you bro’ imprinted on it.
