- By the time he had turned 15, Corey had developed a drug addiction and had overdosed on cocaine twice. Raised primarily by a single mother until then, he had shifted to his grandmother’s house who had taken legal custody of him so that he could continue going to school.
- She also used to buy him musical equipment to better channel his energies. Aged 18, he had left his grandmother’s house and had lived in several places in the state of Iowa.
- Later in life, he had developed serious problems with alcohol abuse and had revealed that his ex-wife Scarlett had prevented him from committing suicide. He had attempted to jump off a balcony of the 8th floor of The Hyatt on Sunset Boulevard in 2003 but she had saved his life. She had even threatened to divorce him if he had refused to mend his ways.
