- He grew up in China.
- He played the role of Zhao Erdou, an artillery battalion commander who befriends Gu Zidi, in the 2007 war film, Assembly, and this performance won him the 29th Hundred Flowers Award for “Best Supporting Actor” and the 2009 Golden Phoenix Award for “Male Actor in a Motion Picture”.
- In 2015, Deng Chao appeared as Xin Xiaofeng, assistant police and one of the 3 suspects for the murder, in the crime drama film, The Dead End, in which he co-starred alongside Duan Yihong, Guo Tao, and Wang Luodan. This role brought him much critical appreciation and he bagged the “Best Actor” award at the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival as well as the 31st Golden Rooster Award for “Best Actor”.
