Gale Gordon was an American actor who rose to prominence by playing memorable characters in several of Lucille Ball’s widely popular television shows. The two shared a friendly working relationship that endured for several decades. He played Mr. Littlefield in I Love Lucy (1952), Mr. Theodore Mooney in The Lucy Show (1963-1968), Harry Carter in Here’s Lucy (1968-1974), and Curtis McGibbon in Life with Lucy (1986). Additionally, his other notable television performances included playing John Wilson in Dennis the Menace (1962-1963) and Osgood Conklin in Our Miss Brooks (1952-1956).

They tied the knot on December 27, 1937, and stayed happily married for close to 60 years until Virginia’s death on May 3, 1995. The couple did not have any children together. Moreover, Gordon passed away less than 2 months after his wife’s death.

- He was born with a cleft palate that was fixed when he was 18 months of age.
- Gordon was exceptionally good at doing cartwheels and did them with ease even later on in his life. Furthermore, he showed off his talent in several episodes of Here’s Lucy.
- He was the only actor, with the exception of Lucille Ball herself, to feature in all 4 of her sitcoms: I Love Lucy (1952), The Lucy Show (1963-1968), Here’s Lucy (1968-1974), and Life with Lucy (1986). Additionally, he was a regular cast member on all 3 shows except the first one.
- Lucille wanted him to play the role of Fred Mertz on her sitcom, I Love Lucy. But, Gordon had to turn down the offer as he was busy with Our Miss Brooks and other radio shows at that time. The role was eventually played by William Frawley.
- He had the distinction of appearing alongside Lou Costello and Lucille Ball in their last film and television appearances respectively. He starred in Lou Costello’s last movie, The Thirty Foot Bride of Candyrock (1959) before he passed away from a heart attack. Similarly, he was a part of Ball’s last television appearance, which was for an episode of Life With Lucy (1986). She died 3 years later from an acute aortic aneurysm.
