1. He relocated from Kazakhstan to Stuttgart, Germany, in 2006. Later, Gennady moved to Big Bear, California to train with Abel Sanchez. He decided to move once again in 2014, to Santa Monica, California where he resides with his family. However, Gennady continues to train at Big Bear, California.
2. It was his older brothers who convinced him to take up boxing when he was just 8 years old.
3. He started competing professionally at the age of 11, in 1993 and won the Karaganda Regional tournament in the cadet division.
4. His older brothers joined the Soviet Army when he was just 9 years old. Sadly, his brother Vadim died in 1990, and Sergey passed away in 1994.
5. From September 2017 to September 2018, The Ring magazine ranked him as the world’s best boxer, pound for pound.
6. He is multilingual and can speak 4 languages – Kazakh, Russian, German, and English.
7. Several magazines such as BoxRec, The Ring, TBRB, and ESPN have ranked him as the “world’s best active middleweight”.
8. In November 2002, Gennady received a scholarship from the Olympic Solidarity program.
9. He won the WBA interim middleweight title by defeating Milton Núñez in 2010.
