  1. Long was exceptionally versatile as a player, having played all 5 defensive line positions. This coupled with his size, strength, and agility, made him an incredible sportsman.
  2. He was selected to play in 8 Pro Bowls and 5 All-Pro teams.
  3. Howie is friends with the sports star, Terry Bradshaw.
  4. He was included in the “NFL 1980s All-Decade Team” alongside Reggie White.
  5. In 1985, he was awarded the George S. Halas Trophy by the Newspaper Enterprise Association (NEA) for being the “NFL Defensive Player of the Year.”
  6. He dedicated his whole career to the Oakland / Los Angeles Raiders and played in the NFL for 13 seasons from 1981 to 1993, having jersey number 75.

  11. He has appeared in films like In’N Out (1984), Broken Arrow (1996), Firestorm (1998), Dollar for the Dead (1998) and 3000 Miles to Graceland (2001).
  12. When doing movies, Long was noted for using a popular stock sound effect in the film Broken Arrow, which came to be known as the “Howie scream”.
  13. Long also made several cameo appearances on various television shows and commercials.
