  1. She was born as a male. Then, she was diagnosed at the age of 5 with gender identity disorder, which made her one of the youngest people to be documented as transgender.
  2. While growing up, her parents used to dress her up in gender-neutral clothing but she wanted to dress up in feminine clothes. She made it clear that she wanted to identify as a female.
  3. When she was 6 years old, Jazz and her parents started appearing on national TV shows to discuss the challenges of growing up as a transgender child.
  4. In 2007, with the help of her parents, she established TransKids Purple Rainbow Foundation, which works to support transgender youth.
  5. In 2011, Jazz and her family were featured in the documentary, “I Am Jazz: A Family in Transition”, which was aired on Oprah Winfrey Network.
  6. At 8, she made her first fabric mermaid tail using a sewing machine.
  7. In 2013, she started her company called Purple Rainbow Tails, which manufactures rubber mermaid tails. The proceeds from the sales are used to support transgender children.
  8. At the age of 5, she started playing soccer. However, she was banned from playing the sport at the competitive level at the age of 8 for 2 years because of being transgender.
  9. In 2013, she finally managed to win in her crusade to get United States Soccer Federation (USSF) to change their policy that would allow trans students to play on the girls’ team.
