  1. He had starred in 1 film that was selected by the Library of Congress to be included in the National Film Registry for being ‘culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant’: Psycho (1960).
  2. In his career, McIntire had replaced leading actors in 2 highly successful western television series after their passing during the show’s production. He stepped into the role of the wagon master on Wagon Train after the original actor Ward Bond died in 1960. Similarly, after Charles Bickford’s death in 1967, he essayed the role of Clay Grainger (Bickford’s character John Grainger’s brother) on The Virginian.
  3. A year before joining Wagon Train as a series regular, he had played the role of Cain Transfuga in the show’s episode titled ‘The Andrew Hale Story’ in 1959 and was curiously made the wagon master while Bond’s character was recovering from a brief illness in the episode.
