Katherine Heigl is one of the few honest celebrities who came clear with their weight loss struggles and shared the best advice with their fans. Here you can find about all her pregnancy weight loss secrets and get inspired to lose the extra pounds not fast or swiftly but slowly and steadily (like she did!).
Slow and Steady
The stunner admits that she gained 50 pounds during her pregnancy and after 7 months of giving birth, she has just 10 pounds to lose to get to her pre-baby weight.
The diva also shares that when she was growing bigger, there were moments when she thought she won ‘t be able to lose it all. She had expected to gain 25-30 pounds during the pregnancy (like her mother), but things didn’t turn out that way.
Efforts to Stay Healthy
The beauty started her gestation on a pregnancy-friendly meal plan and hiked for 5 days a week to avoid excessive weight gain. But when she was 4 months along, she gave up the struggle and tried to respect her body’s needs as well as trust her instincts.
Many women don’t realize that they automatically lose weight when the baby is born. She had the same experience after Joshua Jr’s birth. About 10 days after the birth, she got back on the weighing scale to see how much she still needs to lose and realized that she had lost 30 of the total 50 pounds already. She was shocked, but her doctor told her that the weight loss was a result of 10-15 pounds of baby, blood, placenta, amniotic fluid, etc.
No Quick Fixes
Though Heigl admits that there are girls who can get into skinny jeans a few weeks after pregnancy, she is not one of them. She has lost just 10 pounds since the first unexpected weight loss, and she is okay with it because she has decided to get her pre-baby body back slowly and lovingly.
She has also decided to accept glorious imperfections which are gracing her post baby body like the caesarian scar.
The American actress says that deprivation, calorie counting and eliminating major food groups never actually worked for her. She has had a resentful and unhealthy relationship with her body, but now the pregnancy body has instilled a sense of body pride in her.
She has also got freedom from body shaming that was a persistent part of her life earlier. Gaining weight during her pregnancy and shedding it after the pregnancy in a healthy manner made her feel good from the inside and outside.
The diet secrets of the former fashion model include having low-calorie meals. She knows that she can’t burn loads of calories as she doesn’t do any weight training or high impact cardio exercises.
There are times when her body needs more calories than usual like during breastfeeding but she doesn’t obsess over it. When she needed more calories, she didn’t have unhealthy foods like burgers or fries but stuck to healthier, wholesome and nutritious food options that were made by using healthy ingredients.
When the former child model is working, she gets healthy meals delivered to her doorstep on a daily basis. But when she is not working, she prepares food for herself and her family on her own.
When she has to make her food, she trusts Eating Well website. She also trusts a food delivery service called Hello Fresh. She also prepares meals in advance by stocking her freezer with overnight oats and soups.
Some of the Eating Well oats recipes she prefers are
- Fig & Ricotta Oatmeal
- Creamy Blueberry-Pecan Overnight Oatmeal

Advice for Fans
Her best weight loss advice for fans is that you should start each morning by saying a positive mantra out loud. Her mantra is that she is losing weight easily with good health, grace, inspiration, and gratitude without harming anyone.
She also adds that she is grateful for her body’s strength, perfect health, vibrancy, limberness, beauty, and youthfulness. Her advice is that you should not complain about the negatives of your body like thigh fat, bad knees, etc. but should instead focus on the positives.
Apart from being body positive, you should also exercise for at least 3 days a week, prepare & eat foods that don’t have many calories or bad fats and get 8 hours of sleep every night. You can pick any exercise that suits you best like yoga or hiking.
If you try to lose weight with a positive and loving attitude, you will see better results as compared to an anxious, frustrated and negative attitude. When you have the right attitude, the weight loss won’t be a trouble, but it will be a lifestyle of healthy choices that you make to show your body the love it deserves.
