Ole Gunnar Solskjær Facts

  1. Although Ole is remembered as a Manchester United legend, he used to support the club’s bitter rivals Liverpool as a child.
  2. Following in his father’s footsteps, he had trained as a Greco-Roman wrestler but gave up the sport to avoid major injuries. Amid his flourishing career, he had also served a mandatory year in the Norwegian Army, between 1992 and 1993.
  3. He began his senior career with Norwegian club Clausenengen in 1990. By the time he moved to top-tier club Norwegian club Molde in 1994, he had netted 115 goals in just 109 games, averaging an astonishing 1.06 goals per game.
  4. He was renowned for his ability to score crucial goals after coming on as a substitute in the dying moments of the game. The most memorable occasion of this kind came in the final of the 1998-99 UEFA Champions League against Bayern Munich as Manchester United were trailing 0-1 when regulation time ended but the team struck 2 goals in 3 minutes during the injury time to secure a miraculous win. The 2nd goal was netted by Ole in the 3rd minute of injury time.
  5. In October 2008, he became the youngest recipient of the ‘First Class Knighthood of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav’.
