Osama bin Laden was the founder of the pan-Islamic militant organization Al-Qaeda which has been responsible for spreading global terrorism on a number of occasions. - His name has often been spelled as Usama bin Laden, Usama bin Ladin, Ussamah bin Ladin, Oussama ben Laden, etc. because Arabic does not have a universally accepted standard for transliterating its words.
- In 1988, Osama bin Laden founded Al-Qaeda alongside the likes of Abdullah Azzam and the several other Arab volunteers during the Soviet-Afghan War.
