Ryan Miller is a professional American ice hockey player and humanitarian who is best known for his contribution as a goaltender for the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League.   1. Miller was brought up in East Lansing, Michigan.
  2. He was in California when he started playing youth hockey.
  3. Ryan had started to play hockey in the forward position. However, an unsatisfying goaltender in his team made Miller want to replace him. He tried to convince his father and coach to make him a goalie. However, his father bet him that he would buy him a pair of catching gloves only if he scored 2 goals and got 3 assists, which Ryan did achieve.
  4. Ryan played as a goaltender at Michigan State University, for 3 years with the Michigan State University Spartans. With the team, he had set an all-time record of 26 shutouts in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. For that, he received the “Hobey Baker Award” in 2001. He was also named the “2001 Big Ten-Jesse Owens Men’s Athlete of the Year”.
  5. He started off his career in the American Hockey League with the Rochester Americans with whom he played from the 2002–03 season to the 2004–05 season. Since then, he has played for the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, and in early 2020, he played for the Anaheim Ducks.
  6. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, he stopped 42 of 45 shots against Canada in the preliminary round and eventually helped the United States team get a gold medal during the quarter-finals and semi-finals. However, their loss to Canada in the finals earned them a silver medal.
  7. Miller and his father Dean started the “Steadfast Foundation” in 2006, with the objective of aiding families with the support needed to treat cancer. They came up with the company as a result of his cousin been diagnosed with leukemia in the past.
